Response
Please see our response to your requests in turn below:
Please provide the total number of RIDDOR reports made by or on behalf of the London Fire Commissioner/London Fire Brigade during the 2024 calendar year.
72 RIDDOR reports were submitted in 2024.
Please provide that total broken down by calendar month
The table below shows a breakdown of the 72 RIDDOR reports submitted in 2024 by month. The Brigade holds the exact figures for the months where "five or fewer" has been indicated. However, disclosure of the precise figures, when combined with other information that may already be known about workplace incidents occurring during those periods, could lead to the identification of individual employees. RIDDOR reports relate to a relatively small number of workplace incidents within a defined workforce and time period, and it is not unreasonable to expect that colleagues, managers or others with knowledge of particular incidents may be able to attribute the information to specific individuals. In these circumstances, the Brigade considers that the exact figures constitute personal data and that disclosure would be unfair and contrary to the first data protection principle. The information is therefore exempt under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
To provide as much information as possible without disclosing personal data, the Brigade has indicated where the number of reports in each category was five or fewer:

For September 2024, please provide the number of RIDDOR reports made involving:
-an employee or worker;
Six
- an injury arising from a fall from height; and/or
Five or fewer
-an incident occurring at an LFB workplace, fire station, training facility or other LFB premises
Five or fewer
The Brigade holds the exact figures for the latter categories. However, these figures are not disclosed because the numbers involved are very small. Disclosure of the exact totals, when combined with other information already known or available, could lead to the identification of individual employees involved in reportable workplace incidents (and reveal information relating to workplace injuries involving those individuals). The withheld information constitutes personal data and is exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, as disclosure would contravene the first data protection principle set out in Article 5(1)(a) UK GDPR.
Further non-personal information For RIDDOR reports made during September 2024, please provide, where held and capable of disclosure without identifying any individual: - the date of the reportable incident; - the date on which the RIDDOR notification was submitted; - the broad RIDDOR classification/category; and - the HSE or other enforcing-authority reference number associated with the notification, where one was generated and is capable of disclosure.
The London Fire Brigade holds information falling within the scope of your request.
However, I consider that disclosure of the specific dates on which reportable incidents occurred, the dates on which RIDDOR notifications were submitted, and any associated enforcing authority reference numbers would disclose personal data.
As mentioned above, during September 2024, the Brigade made six RIDDOR notifications. The requested occurrence dates and reporting dates each relate to very small numbers of individuals (one or two cases per date). Although no names have been requested, disclosure of these dates could enable the identification of affected employees when combined with other information that may be known to colleagues, managers, trade union representatives, witnesses or others with knowledge of the incidents.
Disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 is considered disclosure to the world at large. The Brigade considers that disclosure of the dates would be unfair to the individuals concerned and would contravene the first data protection principle. The information is therefore exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The information that can be disclosed is set out below:
